Artist statement
The thirty-five photo series is a collection based on the sacred Persian number seven (haft), multiplied by five (panj), which is representative of the artist’s different life cycles and chosen due to its personal sanctity. These seven photos have been selected for each of the cycles which include themes of grief, love, renewal, rebirth, and decolonization, among others. The photos are all taken with iPhone cameras to express the simplicity and accessibility of photographic expression, and are minimally edited, in order to draw attention to the rawness of a captured moment, exactly as it is.
Learning to be kind in the midst of darkness and the start of a new era

A reminder of my soul and origins before colonization
Renewal of hope and life
Connecting to my roots in my own way, alone but holding my inner child’s hand
Hope and uncertainty of new beginnings in the midst of deep loneliness and a broken relationship
Nostalgia for the precious pieces of the homeland I have yet to experience personally
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mahnaz Zohreh was born from a chosen identity, after feeling an emptiness in a world that outcasts those who are different. A revert to Islam, she has attempted to capture the complexity of being a child of the diaspora in a world that rejects dynamic multiplicity. Her emotive expression aims to encapsulate authenticity in simplicity.
